About 1936 the family moved to Orange County, CA and made their home at Anaheim. For 25 years Earl worked at Knott's Berry Farm, retiring in 1962. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Butler, OK and in Buena Park, CA.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline, of the home; four sons, Everette Carmichael of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Earnest Carmichael of Banning, CA, Elmer Carmichael of Roanda, CA and Maurice Carmichael of Anaheim; one daughter, Velma Koumis of Bellflower, CA; one sister, Stella Barrick of Clinton, OK; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by one sister, Velma Carmichael, in 1923, and two brothers, Artie in 1953 and Hugh, Jr. in 1974.
