Anna, the eldest daughter of Robert and Minerva (Gaunt) Bateman, was born in England and came to the United States with her mother and other relatives when she was two years of age - her father having preceded the family to this country. They settled near Rock Island, IL, where she was married to James A. Dunn on Oct. 16, 1867. Nine children were born to this union, four of whom died in infancy.

After having lived in Ohio, Iowa and Kansas, they homesteaded in Custer County, OK, near the present town of Stafford. Later in life they moved into Arapaho, where they were staunch members of the Methodist Church. After several years of declining health, she passed away from a sudden heart attack while taking a buggy ride into the country with her husband. Her funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Claud DeWitt and she was laid to rest in the Arpaho Cemetery. Survivors include: Five children; Will, Emerson, George, Mrs. Hugh Carmichael and Mrs. Avery Chapman, as well as many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
