Artie was the son of Hugh, Sr. and Elizabeth (Dunn) Carmichael. He was born on a farm near Clifton, KS. When he was a young boy the family moved to Oklahoma and settled on a farm west of Arapaho, in Custer County. He was married to Carrie Steward at Arapaho on 23 Dec. 1909 and they made their first home on a farm near Stafford, Custer County, OK. To this union three children were born, Faye, Arnold and Ivan.
During the depression years the family moved to California. At the time of his passing they were living at Merced. Survivors, in addition to his wife and children, were several grandchildren, two brothers, Earl and Hugh, Jr., both of California, and one sister, Stella Barrick, of Clinton, OK.
