Garland S. "Icky" Stoops, 34, hanged himself yesterday in the attic of his home, Waynesboro, Route 1. The body was found by Harold Huntsberry, a brother-in-law, about 12:25 yesterday afternoon.
Franklin County Coroner J. D. Goshen, who issued a certficate of death by suicide, said Mr. Stoops had been in failing health since last December. He was being treated by a physician for a nervous condition.
He was born on Waynesboro, Route 1, the son of Mrs. Ida (Bonar) Stoops and the late Percy M. Stoops. He lived his entire life in this area.
Surviving besides his mother are these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Frances Biesecker, Harrisburg; S. Glenn Stoops, Greencastle, Orville L. Stoops, Chambersburg, Mrs. Clarence Finafrock, Zullinger, Mrs. Raymond Etter, Quincy, Mrs. Merl Blubaugh, Waynesboro, Mrs. Samuel Baughman, Waynesboro, Eugene, Carl, Robert L. Stoops, and Mrs. Harold (Shirley) Huntsberry, all of Waynesboro.
Interment will be made in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy, PA.
