ROBERT L. STOOPS, 48, of 11265 Gehr Rd.. Waynesboro, died at 1:15 a.m. today in Waynesboro Hospital.
He had been in failing health for four years and was critically ill for the last two weeks.
He was born in Waynesboro, June 27, 1932, son of the late Percy M. and Ida Bonner Stoops. He lived his entire live in the Waynesboro area. He was a graduate of Quincy High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. From 1955 until being disabled by ill health in 1958. he was employed by Teledyne Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro. He had been forman in the heat-treating department for two years.
For a number of years he was the leader of the Ghost Riders, a country and western band. He was a member the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro and was a member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.
In addition to his wife, Mrs. Catherine Stahley Stoops, he is survived by four sons, Robert L. Stoops, Jr. of Zullinger; Audie Stoops of Mt. Alto; Faron Stoops and Mitchell Stoops, both at home; two granddaughters; four brothers. S. Glenn Stoops of Quincy, Orville Stoops of Fayetteville, Eugene Stoops of Waynesboro and Carl Stoops of Kissimmee, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. Frances Besecker of South Mountain, Mrs. Naomi Finafrock of Lake Placid, Fla., and Mrs. Arlene Blubaugh and Mrs. Irene Baughman, both of Waynesboro, and Shirley Huntsberry of Rouzerville.
Funeral services will be held at 3.30 p.m. Sunday at the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro, with the Rev. David Clark and the Rev. Robert Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Sunday.
