Obituary
Lydia A. Smith
Lydia A. Smith, daughter of John R. and Louisa J. Smith was born in Dundy County, Missouri, January 14, 1863, passed away at the home of her daughter, Daisy Colling, in Wilsonville, Nebraska, September 24, 1952, at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 10 days.
On November 9th, 1879, she was united in marriage to Pembrook Burt at Clay Center, Nebraska. To this union twelve children were born; five having preceded her in death. Her husband, Pembrook Burt, passed away in Wilsonville, Nebraska, April 14, 1943.
Early in life she confessed her faith in her Lord and became a member of the Methodist Church. Retaining this same faith which sustained her and helped her through life's difficulties, and brought her much joy in the long life she lived; which to her was always a service to others.
She was a kind and loving wife and mother, her first interest always being her home and family.
She will be greatly missed by her remaining children, namely; Oran E. Burt of Ontario, California, Mrs. Guy Dillan of Wilsonville, Nebraska, Joseph B. Burt of Thayer, Kansas, Mrs. Thomas Mattice of Twin falls, Idaho, Mrs. Daisy Colling of Wilsonville, Nebraska, Mrs. Jay Mourey of Oxford, Nebraska, Mrs. Wayne Harrington of Gardena, California.
Also five brothers; Joseph E. Smith, Beaver City, Nebraska, James Otis Smith, Sumner, Washington, Albert R. Smith, Portland, Oregon, Edward Scott Smith, Fresno, California, Fredrick A. Smith, Ontario, California
30 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends.
Sleep on beloved sleep, and take
thy rest:
Lay down thy head upon thy Savior's breast,
We love Thee well, but Jesus loves
Thee best.
Services were conducted from the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Rev. Lisie E. Mewmaw of the Methodist Church officiated. A mixed quartette, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Cole, Mrs. Lisle Mewmaw, Mr. Floyd Colling, sang "Under His Wing," and "Nearer My God To Thee", accompanied by Mr. Floyd Colling.
Casket bearers were Robert Dillan, Paul Stanley, Harold Comer, Vaughn Meader, Lowell Stanley, and Marion Tague.
Interment was made in Hendley Cemetery. Cline Funeral Home of Wilsonville in charge of arrangements
