Funeral Services
Were April 29th
For Joe Smith

Funeral services Joe Smith were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Grac Brethren Chruch in Beaver City. Reverend Dayton Cundiff, pastor, officiated at the memorial rites.
Joeph Ellsworth Smith, son of John R. and Louisa J. Smith, was born January 13, 1867 near Chillicothe, Missouri and departed this life April 28, 1961 at the age of 94 years, three months ad 15days.
He left Missouri as a boy and came to Clay County in a covered wagon later moving to Norton County, Kansas. In 1905 he came to Beaver City where he spent the last 56 years of his life.
He was united in marriage to Mary Lenora Cozad, of the Precept area, on February 19, 1893. To this union was born four children Vern, Maude, Carl, and Wayne. H was privileged to celebrate his 63rd wedding anniversary in 1956.
At the age of 16 he made a profession of faith. In 1921 he joined the Brethren Chruch where he served faithfully.
Preceding him in death were: his wife; one son-in-law, Frank P. Smith; and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vern Smith.
Left to mourn his passing are: two brothers, Scott Smith of Santa Cruz, California; Fred Smith of Ontario, California; three sons: Vern of Holdredge, Wayne and Carl of Beaver City; one daughter, Maude of Beaver City; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Wayne Smith and Mrs. Carl Smith of Beaver City; six grand-children, Mrs. Arlene Stout of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mrs. Helen Louse Culver of Orleans, Bob Smith of Belem, Brazil, Richard Smith of Columbus, Indiana, Don Smith of Wooster, Ohio and Mrs. Freda Beck of Curtis and their families including 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Mr. Joe Smith was affectionately known as Uncle Joe.
He has been in our Church for as long as I can remember and has served faithfully,
He held the office of Moderator for some time, also Deacon and Trustee.
He faithfully attended Sunday School and Church until the day he took sick and has nearly a perfect attendance the last four years.
His faithfulness is commendable, and he has added much to the spiritual life of the church.
Music for the service was supplied by an octet of Melvin Smith, grant Marpel, Dwight Marpel, Bill Shackleton, Paul Smith, Harold Inman. Larry Cass and Reverend Dayton Cundiff. They sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "More About Jesus". Mrs. J. G. Ackerman was the accompanist.
Interment was made in Mount Hope Cemetery west of Beaver City. Pallbearers were Dean Chesterman, Clark Beeler, W. H. Sturtevant, Stanley Shraugr, Clyde Roberts, and Joe Bates.
Hopping-Haase-Funeral Home of Beaver City was in charge of the arrangements.
