He was born in Daviess County, was a retired farmer and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary I. "Mayme" Mattingly; 2 sons, Wayne Mattingly of Owensboro and Richard Mattingly of Evansville; 3 daughters, Mrs. Joe (Mary Ann) Hardy of New Albany, IN, and Joetta Millay and Mrs. Jerry (Judy) Stinnett, both of Owensboro; 18 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Mattingly of Louisville; and 5 sisters, Helen Abel and Mary Callahan, both of Louisville, Pauline Aull and Nannie Mae Higdon, both of Owensboro and Catherine "Kate" Dishman of Detroit. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. William Catholic Church, Knottsville. Burial in St. William Cemetery. Visitation after 11 a.m. today at Glenn Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. today.
