Mannie Evans Estes, the son of Elisha Evans Estes and Sarah Caroline McCarty Estes, was born December 12, 1881. His paternal grandparents were Evan and Emeline Estes. Maternal grandparents were Dennis and Minerva McCarty. His siblings were Wylie Estes, Sam Estes, Jesse Estes, Hattie Lou Estes Leslie, and Addie Mae Estes Jones. Mannie Evans Estes married Selma Francis Shumpert on August 1, 1915 at the home of John Houston and Dora Shumpert, parents' of the bride. Mannie and Selma Estes had nine children: Marie Estes Jones, Ernest Elisha Estes, Foy Lou Estes (Ruth) Basden, Lucille Estes Allen, Mae Estes Ruth, Mannie Leonard Estes, Mannie Weaver Estes, Dora Ellen Estes (Putt) Stroup, and John Thomas Estes. Mannie Evans Estes was a farmer. He was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church. Mannie Evans passed away March 11, 1969 in Tupelo, MS. He was survived by his widow, all nine of his children, one brother - Sam, 25 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
