Mannie Weaver Estes , the son of Mannie Evan Estes and Selma Frances Shumpert Estes , was born February 2 , 1929 in Lee county , Mississippi. His paternal grandparents were Elisha Evans Estes and Sarah Caroline McCarty Estes and his maternal grandparents were John Houston Shumpert and Rothsura Dora McKinney Shumpert . He was one of nine siblings . His siblings were : Marie Estes Jones , Ernest Elisha Estes , Foy Lou Estes Basden , Lucille Estes Allen , Mannie Leonard Estes , Dora Ellen Estes Stroupe , Mae Estes Ruth, and John Thomas Estes . He retired as a fireman in 1981 after many years of service with the Houston , Texas fire department and then became a farmer for awhile . He married Helen Wilson on August 2 , 1947 in Lee county , Mississippi . Mannie and his wife Helen were the parents of a son Daniel and a daughter Debbie . Mannie loved the Lord and he delighted in playing the piano " by ear " and singing gospel songs and hymns . He sang in the choir of his church Central Baptist Church . He also enjoyed playing dominos with friends and family . Mannie was very family oriented . He loved and cherished each member of his family and enjoyed spending time with them . Mannie Weaver Estes passed away Monday , June 20 in Whitehall Nursing Home in Crockett , Texas . He was survived by his wife of over 68 years Helen Wilson Estes ; daughter Debbie Pinion ; son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Diane Leger Estes ; his grandchildren : Jim Estes , Tammy Estes , Daniel Estes (Jennifer ) , Matt Norris , and Adam Norris ; great grandchildren: Dalton Shan, Brittany Estes , Cody Estes , Wyatt Estes , and Emily Norris ; his sister Mae Ruth and brother John Thomas Estes ; and his brother-in-laws Claude Basden and Robert Wayne Stroupe. He was preceded in death by his parents , Mannie and Selma Estes , and siblings : Marie Estes Jones , Ernest Estes , Foy Estes Basden , Lucille Estes Allen , Leonard Estes , and Ellen Estes Stroupe .
