James C. West, 60, a former timber faller and night watchman for Crown Zellerbach, died Monday at his home.

Born in Pine, Mo., December 7, 1921, Mr. West was the son of William and Minnie Hurt West. He attended school in Illinois. In 1957 he came to Astoria. He married Blanche Thompson in Arkansas.

Mr. West was U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the International Woodworkers of America.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Carl West, Ernie West, and Steve West, all of Astoria; three daughters, Nancy Schmidt, Portland, and Sally Hauer and Laura West, Astoria; two sisters, Mildred Davis and Irene Wells, both in Illinois; four brothers, Edward West, Gene West and George West, all in Illinois, and Charles West, lives in Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Mack and Chester; and three sisters, Virginia, Disia and Marie.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Caldwell's- Luce- Layton Mortuary. Contributions may be to the American Heart Asssociation Oregon Affliate.
