Mr. Lloyd George West, 96 of rural Abingdon, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his home.

He was born July 31, 1925, in Briar, Missouri, the son of William and Minnie (Hurt) West. He married Roberta N. Brock on January 29, 1950, at the Christian Church in Galesburg.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 71 ½ years, Roberta; his children, Stanley (Karen) West of Knoxville, Darrell D. (Cathy) West of Urbana, Lloyd (Nancy) West of Cameron, and Carolyn Lane of Berwick; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Lorry, a great-grandson, Peyton, six brothers, James, Edward, Mack, Chester, Charles, and Gene, and five sisters, Mildred, Virginia, Irene, Edna, and Marie.

Lloyd lived most of his adult life in the Abingdon area. He served in the Army for two years during WW II with the 10th Mountain Division and was awarded the Rifleman Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Bronze Star. He worked at the former Kendrick Sawmill in Abingdon, the former CB&Q Freight House in Galesburg, the former American Sanitary Company (Brass Factory) in Abingdon, and he retired in 1992 from the former Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He was also a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post#381 in Abingdon. He was selected to be on the Honor Flight from the Quad Cities to tour the War Memorial Monuments in Washington D.C. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and he was proud to fly the American Flag.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the Abingdon Christian Church, 409 S. Main St. in Abingdon. Rev. Will Brown will officiate. Those wishing to attend the funeral "Virtually" may watch the live broadcast at 11 a.m. Wednesday on the funeral home's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-160333664037824. Burial with military honors will be at the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
