He married Mary Elizabeth Shoemaker West on January 25, 1947, in Oran, Missouri. She survives.

Rt. Abingdon; one sister, Irene Wells, Galesburg, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, including his twin and five brothers.
He had lived in Abingdon for the past 52 years. He worked at the former Brass Factory in Abingdon for 23 years until it closed. He then worked at Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg retiring in 1987. He also farmed with his son near Abingdon.
He served in the CCC and later in the army during WW II in the Fifth Infantry where he was a tank operator. He served in Africa, Italy, France, and Yugoslavia. He was of the Methodist Faith. He was a past member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post in Abingdon and assisted with both the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of America.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon with Eleanor Landon, officiating.
Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association or Abingdon Senior Citizen's Van.
