Omer Eugene "Gene" West, 61, 604 S. Jefferson St., died at 10:41 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 1992, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital's emergency room.

He was born March 26, 1931, in Brair, Mo., the son of William and Minnie Hurt West. He married Carol Garner on Jan. 3, 1953, in Greenville. S.C.

Surviving is his wife; two sons, Roger West, Abingdon and Loren West, Galesburg Route 6; one daughter, Julie Shipplett, Abingdon; three brothers, Edward West and George West, both of Abingdon, and Charles West, Omaha, Neb., two sisters Irene Wells, Galesburg, and Mildred Davis, Alexis, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

He lived most of his life in Abingdon, he worked for Briggs Manufacturing Co. for 25 years. most recently in the Monmouth Distribution Center.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member and trustee of Avon Gospel Chapel.

The Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon, with the Rev. Paul Ballard officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetary,
