Born at Leola, Arkansas, on February 27, 1917, he was a son of the late William Andrew Rushing and Emma Rhodes Rushing.
He was reared and received his early education at Leola, Grant County and was drafted and entered the United States Army in late April or May 1945.and served during World War II.
He retired from Ben Pearson Company as a shear operator for 35 years.
He was the widower of Allie Bell Garner Rushing who died in 1962.
Mr. Rushing moved to Pine Bluff area in 1950. He was a member of the Kingsland Baptist Church.
Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by his wife, Allie Bell Garner Rushing, a grandson: Donald Lee Rushing, granddaughter: Anglia Lynn Wiley, two great granddaughters, and four brothers: Jack Rushing, William Thomas Rushing, Cornelius Neely Rushing, Tellis D. Rushing, and a sister: Ollie Gertrude Rushing Price
Survivors include six son: A. B. "Buddy" Rushing, Jr., J. T. Rushing, Roger Dale Rushing, Gary Wayne Rushing, Havis Rushing, all of Pine Bluff, Michael W. Rushing of Texarkana, Arkansas, five daughters: Emma Jean Rushing Lawrence, Christine Rushing Wiley, and Charlotte Rushing Best all of Pine Bluff, Shirley Beatty of Grady, Arkansas, and Patricia Rushing of Allen, Texas: two Brothers Henry D. Rushing, Portland Oregon, and A. J. Rushing of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and a sister: Rachel Rushing Shelby of Monroe, Louisiana,33 grandchildren, and 48 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, November 26, 1999, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Glendale, Arkansas, conducted by Sammy Alverson.
Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery at Glendale, Arkansas, with Ralph Robinson and Son in charge of the Arrangements.
