Funeral for Henry D. Rushing of McMinnville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Valley Baptist Church, 2631 N.E. McDonald Lane, with the Rev. Kelly Boggs officiating. Visitation will be until 4 p.m. today in the Chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville.

Mr. Rushing died July 18, 2004, in Oakwood Country Place, McMinnville. He was 82. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

He was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Leola, Ark., the son of Andrew and Emma Rhoads Rushing. He was raised and educated in Arkansas. He then served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, until after World War II.

He returned to, Cleveland County, Arkansas, and met his first wife Vera Mae Hughes and they married in 1948. The marriage ended in a Divorce, and he left Arkansas and moved to Cloverdale, California

After his military service, he moved to Cloverdale, Calif., where he met Ida Beach. They married Aug. 31, 1964, in Las Vegas. In 1967, they moved to Dayton and he worked until 1980 in the plywood mill in McMinnville. The Rushings then moved to Kingsland, Ark. They lived there until 1990, when they moved to McMinnville, where they had lived since.

Mr. Rushing enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, visiting with friends and meeting new people. He was an active member of the Valley Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion.

The family said, "He always had a winning smile."

Survivors include his wife of McMinnville; Three sons: David Lance,of Oregon, Everett Bucknell of McMinnville and Ronnie Burgess of Carlton; a daughter, Judy Sullivan of Roseville, Calif.; a sister, Rachael Shelby of Monroe, La.; a brother, A.J. Rushing of Pine Bluff, Ark.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Lance; five brothers, Neely Rushing, William Thomas "Tom" Rushing, Telles "Dick" Rushing, A.B. Rushing and Jack Rushing; and a sister, Ollie G. Rushing Price.
