Mamie was the second of ten children born to Henry Stoneman and Candis Isabelle (Price) Smith. She married George Nathaniel Underwood in 1911 and they were the parents of five children: Mabel Louise, Connie Roosevelt, George Stoneman, Lydie Mozelle and Belle Christine.

Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel for Mrs. Mamie Ethel Underwood, 77, of 3716 Spring Garden St., who died Tuesday at Greensboro Nursing Home and Convalescent Center where she had been a patent for one month.
Survivors are daughters, Mrs. Mabel Stanley of Raleigh and Mrs. Belle Tesh of Greensboro; sons, Connie R. and George S. Underwood, both of Greensboro; sisters, Mrs. Arlie Hearne of Spindale, Mrs. Carrie Stout of Burlington and Mrs. Birdie Stukes of Greensboro; brothers, Raymond E. and Thad W. Smith, both of Greensboro and Talley E. Smith of Burlington.
The minister will come from Ohio to officiate. Burial will be in Pinehill Cemetery, Burlington.
