Candis was the daughter of Alexander J. and Lydia (Pressley) Price. She married Henry Stoneman Smith and they were the parents of ten children: Raymond Edgar, Mamie Ethel, Arlie E., Gaston Clarence, Birdie I., Dovie S., Tallie Waver, Carrie Thelma, Thad William and Flossie.

Mrs. Candice Smith
Is Stricken Today

Mrs. Candice Isabelle Smith, 69, died this morning at 8 o'clock at the Piedmont Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for a day. She had been in poor health for the past four years but critically ill only two days.
Her residence was at 3818 Spring Garden street extension.
Surviving are her husband, H. S. Smith; three sons, R. E. T. W. A. and T. W. Smith, the first two of Burlington and the latter of Greesnboro; five daughters, Mrs. G. N. Underwood and Mrs. E. C. Stout, of Burlington, Mrs. L. L. White, of Charlotte, Mrs. Birdie Davis, of Greensboro, and Mrs. R. W. Hearne, of Spindale; two brothers, Jonas and Thomas, of Hickory; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Alexander county and formerly lived at Hickory, having become a resident of Greensboro 30 years ago where she had resided since.
No funeral arrangements had been made this afternoon.

MRS. CANDICE SMITH

Funeral service for Mrs. Candice Isabelle Smith, 69, wife of H. S. Smith, of 3818 Spring Garden street who died Thursday at Piedmont Memorial hospital, was held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Pomona Baptist church. Rev. C. M. Oates, pastor, assisted by Rev. W. B. Cook, pastor of Sixteenth Street Baptist church, and Rev. G. W. Swiney, of Burlington, officiated. Interment was in Guilford Memorial Park.
