Raymond was the oldest of eleven children born to Henry Stoneman and Candis Isabelle (Price) Smith. He married Joanna Virginia Hall in 1909 and they were the parents of three children: Clyde Elvin, Flay Anthor, Virginia Ruth.

Raymond Edgar Smith, 87, of 3609 Brevard St. died Wednesday morning in L. Richardson Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. W. T. Armstrong officiating. Burial will be at Guilford Memorial Park.
He was a retired weaver with Burlington Industries and a native of Alexander County. He was a member of Jim Greene Memorial Church.
Surviving are daughter; Mrs. Ralph C. Melvin of Greensboro; Son F. A. Smith of Lantana, Fla.; brothers, Thad Smith of Greensboro, Tal Smith of Burlington; sisters, Mrs. Bertie Stukes of Greensboro, Mrs. Carrie Stout of Burlington; four grandchildren.
This family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. today.
