Milton Cherland, who died July 10, will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Milt was born in Blue Earth, Minn. on October 1, 1923 to Carl and Kate Cherland. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church of Blue Earth.
He graduated from high school in Blue Earth, then attended Mankato State before joining the Navy in 1942 during World War II. After the war he completed his college degree at Mankato and while there he was co-captain of the championship gymnastic team with his brother, Dick.
He was united in marriage to Nora Matzke in 1947 and his brother Pastor Clarence officiated at the marriage.
He taught industrial arts in Ceylon, Minn., El Centro, Calif., and one year in Shiprock. He built homes in Ceylon and on Summit Ridge.
When Milt came to Colorado to build a vacation home he did not realize how much a part of his life Colorado and its people would become. After an illness this spring, Milt was looking forward to returning to Colorado. He died in his sleep of a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Ollie; four children Derek, John, Renee and Dean; two step-children, Daren Cleaver and Veda Crain; 12 grandchildren; also his two sisters Alvina Kallestad and Kathleen Sohn. His surviving brothers are Carroll, Wayne and Richard.
Preceding him in death were his brothers Clarence, Gaylord and Robert.
He will be remembered for his love and concern for his family and friends, his love of adventure and his desire to continue to learn new things. He loved to ride his horse with his friend Dick and did so until his death.
