Richard was born on April 22, 1928 in Blue Earth, Minnesota along with his twin, Robert. Upon graduating from Blue Earth High School in 1946, he served in the Army Air Corps until 1949. After his service he attended Mankato State Teacher's College. He earned his Bachelors degree in June of 1952. Upon graduation, he started his first teaching job in Ringsted, Iowa. After nine years of teaching he relocated to the Beaumont/Banning area where he continued his teaching career at the Junior High School in Beaumont, California as a woodshop and drafting teacher. In his limited spare time he worked as a teacher for adult education and also ran the local ice cream plant. As a lifelong learner, he received his Master's Degree from California State University Long Beach and taught for the Beaumont School District until his retirement in 1989.
Richard had a passion for life and love of learning. He enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, hunting, watching his beloved Vikings and dancing with his wife, Margaret, of 60 years. He was infamous for his intriguing stories from his childhood in Minnesota, his notorious puns and one-liners, his collegiate gymnastic stint, his life at Mankato College, and his experiences as an Air Corps pilot. He loved people and was very loved in return. He was a staple of the community and he will be forever missed.
