JAMES MONROE WOOD FUNERAL MARCH 24

Funeral services were held March 24th in the Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Hugh Cooper of Melbourne, Ark. and Rev. Jack Brown of Salem officiating for James Monroe Wood, son of the late William L. and Lucy Byrd Wood. He was born at Viola, Ark. December 19, 1872. He died in a West Plains, Mo. hospital March 22 at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 3 days. He was married to Elizabeth Rosier at Viola, June 12, 1893 and to this union nine children were born. His companion preceded him in death.
Survivors are four daughters; Mrs Annice Reavis of Lanton, Mo., Miss Bertha Wood, Salem: Mrs Pearl Smith, Thayer, Mo., and Mrs Granville Sherman, Viola. Four sons: Oral Wood of Salem, Clough Wood, Sturkie; Rufus Wood, Byron and Clyde Wood of Lockney, Texas. One brother, Bob Wood of Salem. One sister Mrs. Ora Skaggs of West Plains, Mo., fourteen grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Wood has been a member of the Baptist Church since he was a young man. He was a retired farmer. He was a life long resident of Fulton County.
Pallbearers were Charles Sherman, Mike Smith, Junior Reavis, Bill Wood, Owen Wood and George Meyer.
Burial was in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Service of Salem.
