RUFUS RAY WOOD, of Byron, Arkansas, son of the late James Monroe and Nancy ELizabeth Rosier Wood, was born July 5, 1913, at Salem, Arkansas. He departed this life Wednesday, February 5, 1986, at the Fulton County Hospital, Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 72 years and 7 months.
Rufus was united in marriage to Inez Welch at Viola, Arkansas, on June 2, 1934. To this union two children were born.
Mr. Wood leaves to mourn his passing: Wife: Inez of the home in Byron, Arkansas; daughter and son-in-law: Mary Elizabeth and Arthur Jack Glock, Liberty, Missouri; son and daughter-in-law: William R. and Virginia G. Wood, Tyler, Texas; five grandchildren; one brother: Clough Wood, Sturkie, Arkansas; Granville Sherman, Viola, Arkansas; Pearl Smith, Thayer, Missouri: other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brother and one sister.
Rufus was a member and elder of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Byron, Arkansas. He served in the Army during World War II and received 2 Bronze Stars and other medals. Mr. Wood was a merchant and postmaster for Byron for 30 years. A member of the New Viola Lodge #741 Fand AM.
