Former Elmerite Is Dead in Colorado

---John P. Roberts, a resident of the Elmer community for most of his life, died at 2 o'clock yesterday morning in Cedar Edge, Colo. where he had made his home for the past eight years.
---The body will be returned to Elmer Saturday where it will lie in state at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Richmond, until funeral services at the Elmer Christian Church at 2 p.m.
---Roberts was born in Illinois but spent most of his life in Elmer as a blacksmith and a farmer.
---Other survivors include another daughter, Mrs. Ray Perkins of Cedar Edge. His wife, son and daughter preceded him in death. Mrs. Ora Bonifield is a half sister.
---Mr. and Mrs. Roy Perkins and two children left last Thursday for Elmer, Mo. Mrs. Perkins father's funeral was Sunday. Mr. Perkins' niece, Mrs. Bennie Martinez and her children of Silverton are staying with Robert Perkins on the ranch while the others are gone.

John P. Roberts Dies At Home Of Daughter
--John P. Roberts, 85, of Cedaredge died early Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Perkins. He had been ill since Saturday when he suffered a heart attack and had been under the care of a physician at the Roy Perkins ranch since that time.
---Mr. Roberts was born Sept. 30, 1868 in Illinois. He came to Cedaredge eight years ago from Missouri. Mr. Roberts was married in Elmer, Mo., July 20, 1904 to Maude Wiggans who preceded him in death Nov. 15, 1935. A daughter, Freida May, died in 1907 and a son Ernest Lloyd, died in 1935.
---He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Maxine Perkins of Cedaredge, and Mrs. Dora Fern Richmond of Elmer, Mo., there are also three grandchildren.
---Arrangements were taken care of by the Lamarr Funeral Home of Delta who shipped the remains to the W. H. McCollum Funeral Home in Elmer, Mo., for burial.

---John P. Roberts was born Sept., 30, 1868 in Illinois, the son of Daniel and Pamilia Roberts, and passed away May 5, 1954 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Perkins at Cedar Edge, Colo.
---He was married to Dora Maude Wiggans July 20th, 1904 and to this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter who died in infancy, one grandson, two sisters, six half brothers and two half sisters. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Roy Perkins of Cedar Edge and Mrs. Harry Richmond of Elmer, three grandchildren - Robert, Doris and Larry Perkins of Cedar Edge, one half brother Beaman of Buhl, Idaho; two half sisters, Mrs. Mishie Burkhart of Exter, Calif., and Mrs. Ora Bonifield of California.
---Roberts was a resident of Elmer for many years. He first started in business as a blacksmith and in later years took up farming near Elmer where he remained until old age forced his retirement. He spent the last seven years of his life with his daughter in Colorado.
---Funeral services were Sunday afternoon by Rev. T. E. Spurling of Shelbyville. Burial was in the Elmer Cemetery.
