ORA BONIFIELD OF ELMER DIES AT 87
Ora Susan Bonifield, 87 of Elmer, died Wednesday morning at the La Plata Nursing Home. She had been in failing health eight years.
Born Dec. 18, 1889 in Macon County near Callao, she was the daughter of Daniel and Barbara (Shumaker) Roberts. On Oct. 3, 1907 in Macon County, she was married to Charles M. Bonifield, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1940. Also preceding her in death were one son, Lester Bonifield; one step-son, Charles L. Bonifield; two brothers, one sister, and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Surviving are two daughters, Clara Bonifield and Mrs. Herman (Nellie) Spencer, both of Elmer; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Beamen Roberts of Jerome, Indiana; one step-daughter, Mrs. Eli (Pearl) Riley of Macon; and three step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bonifield was a lifelong resident of Macon County. For sixteen years she had been a telephone operator in Elmer.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Elmer Senior Citizen Club. She was also a member of the Elmer Christian Church, where funeral services were held Friday afternoon. Burial was in the Elmer Cemetery.
The body was at the Goodding Funeral Home in Atlanta.
