Theodore (1861-1920) and his brother John Raden emigrated in 1879 from Schleid, Germany, in Kreis Bitburg, Regierungs Bezirk Trier to escape three years of forced army service. They came to St. Cloud, where John secured a loan from "Mr. Thielman," a former neighbor in Bitburg, who had a general store in St. Cloud." Two years after the oldest sons left, they sent for their family in Germany.
