Thomas was the son of Alexander David "Sandy" McDaniel and Martha (Stubbs) McDaniel.

Thomas was first married to Margaret Elizabeth Herring September 1, 1859 in Parker County, Texas. They had six children with the last one dying only a few months old.

After the death of Margaret, Thomas then married Rebecca Josephine (Smith) Merritt on April 30, 1873 in Robertson County, Texas. Together they had seven children.

The pictures of Thomas were in my grandmother's box of pictures that I inherited. My grandmother was a daughter of Thomas. The picture of his headstone was taken by my cousin, Randy Bryan.

THE BELLEVUE NEWS BELLEVUE, TEXAS FRIDAY APRIL 16, 1926

AGED VETERAN AND FORMER TEXAS RANGER DIES AT RIPE OLD AGE

T.H. McDaniel, age 87 years and a veteran of the Civil War and former Texas Ranger, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Anderson of Frederick, Okla. at 5:30 p.m., March 29, 1926.
The funeral services was held in the Valley Home Church of Christ with Elder A.G. Hughes of Vernon, Texas, and Rev. R. F Whitaker of Tipton, Okla., in charge. Burial was in the city Cemetery at Frederick.
Mr. McDaniel went all the way through the Civil War and emerged from the conflict without a single flesh wound. At one time a small lock of his hair was clipped from just above his right ear by a bullet from an enemy gun. With this exception he served the entire period of the war, often engaging in close combat battle, without even a scratch.
He was a member of Price's Brigade under General Lee, Co. D., 31st Texas Calvary, under the command of Captain Genoe. He served about two years as a member of the Texas Rangers force in Co., D, under Captain Berry at Fort Camp, Colorado. Mr, McDaniel was truly a frontiersman and his going marks the passing of another veteran of the great conflict between the states,

and the following children. A.L. McDaniel, Commanche, Texas; Mrs. Elizabeth Moore, Commanche, Texas; T.J. McDaniel, Bellevue, Texas; I.D. McDaniel, Oklahoma City, Okla.;Bertie Stubbs of Hobart, Oklahoma; Mrs. J.A. Anderson, Frederick, Okla.; all of whom were present at the funeral except Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Stubbs.
Besides these, he is survived by about 60 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Following grandchildren and great grandchildren were present at the funeral; Mrs. Carrie Mitchell, Mrs. Ann Stravlo, Mrs. Vereda McGraw and husband, Miss Fannie Jones, all of Oklahoma City; T.W. Woodruff, Millsap, Texas; Ira V. McDaniel and wife, Cushing, Okla.; Mrs. Ruby Meek and husband, Vernon, Texas; Dewey McDaniel, Bellevue, Texas; Earl Anderson, Frederick, Okla; Mrs. Lillian Bryan and husband, Mountainview, Okla.; Mrs. Valerie Simpson, Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Lee Dalton, Florette and Alice Ellen Meek, Vernon, Texas; Alvis and Joye Bryan, Mountainview. Okla.
The pallbearers were composed of the grandchildren: as follows: T.W. Woodruff, Dewey McDaniel, Earl and Johnnie Anderson, S.M. Meek and Ernest Bryan.
