Ireton Family Cemetery
Alex, Grady County, Oklahoma, USA
The only burials known to be in this family cemetery are those of John Ireton's immediate and extended family. No burials have been made in this cemetery since 1931.
The centerpiece of this old cemetery is a very large, beautiful Angel monument. How it has remained steadfast and upright is a mystery to all of us who call this area home. The cemetery is now cared for by the Otey family. It is fenced to keep out roaming livestock which you see quite often gathered under the surrounding trees at the cemetery.
The Ireton Family Cemetery's actual footprint still belongs to the Ireton family but that footprint is surrounded by private land owned by the Otey family. A locked gate is at the entrance to the pasture. The Otey home is just north of the cemetery on the same side of the road. Contact should be made with them before visiting the cemetery.
Gail Stymersski surveyed the Ireton Family Cemetery on August 18, 2002. There are some differences in her survey list online and the actual tombstones surveyed by Shirley Bray on January 29, 2011.
The Ireton Family Cemetery, located north of Alex, OK, is often confused with the Laflin Creek Cemetery located northeast of Alex, OK. Laflin Creek Cemetery, near the old Ireton Community townsite, is often called the "Ireton Cemetery" by locals.
