On 12 September 1933, Joe married Marie Frank, the daughter of John and Emma Wilt Frank, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn. After their marriage, they lied in the Bechyn area, and then moved to their farm east of Bird Island, where they raised their family. They retired in Bird Island in 1977, and since 1996, Joe and Marie resided at the Fairview Place in Olivia.
Joe enjoyed playing cards, taking care of his lawn and garden, and watching "The John Deere Band Wagon Show" on television. He truly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Joseph J. Wohnoutka, of Olivia and formerly of Bird Island, died at the age of 93, on Wednesday, 11 November 1998, at the Olivia Healthcare Center in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota.
He was survived by his wife, Marie; eight children and their spouses, Maynard (Vivian) Wohnoutka of Omaha, Nebraska, Marie (Bernie) Barlow of Plymouth, Harvey (Dede) Wohnoutka of Bird Island, Katie (Pat) Kneefe of New Ulm, Bernie (Tony) Ziller of Bird Island, Rose (John) O'Brien of Rogers, John (Mary) Wohnoutka of Plymouth, and Joni (Chris) Keltgen of Olivia; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward of Redwood Falls, William (Helena) of Olivia, and George (Gertrude) of California; two sisters, Cecelia Wlock of California and Lillian (Joe) Fischer of California.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mike, Emil, and Frank; sister, Mary Chlan; and son-in-law, Jerry Dunning.
The funeral service for Joseph was held, on Saturday, 14 November 1998, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island.
Joseph was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bird Island, Renville County, Minnesota.
