Emil James Wohnoutka was born on 26 September 1909, in Beaver Falls Township, Renville County, Minnesota, to Frank and Antonia Shembauer Wohnoutka. He attended country school in Renville County.

On 30 June 1936, Emil married Gladys Kodet, the daughter of Frank H. and Katherine H. Zetah Kodet. They farmed on the family farm until Emil retired in 1983. They had two daughters and two sons.

Emil had been a member of the District 7 School Board for many years. He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and had been an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn.

Emil James Wohnoutka, of Redwood Falls, died at the age of 83, on Saturday, 28 November 1992, at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, Redwood County, Minnesota. He had been a resident of the Home for six and one-half years prior to his death.

He was survived by his wife, Gladys; daughters, Elaine Hoffmann and Shirley Kretsch, both of Redwood Falls; sons, Dale of Cottage Grove and Douglas of Mendota Heights; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank of Bismarck, North Dakota, Joseph of Bird Island, William of Olivia, Edward of rural Redwood Falls, and George of California; and sisters, Cecelia Walck and Lillian Fischer, both of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Miloyd.

Visitation was on Wednesday, 2 December, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Thursday, 3 December, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., at the Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. There was a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday evening, at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, 3 December 1992, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.

Pallbearers were Scott Kretsch, Scott Wohnoutka, Randy Hoffmann, Tim Hoffmann, Richard Wohnoutka, and John Smith.

Emil was buried in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
