John George W. Jolliff, 89 of Rt. 1, Koshkonong, died yesterday afternoon at his home following an illness of several years. Mr. Jolliff was bedfast since September, 1957, suffering from complications due to his age. He was born Oct. 5, 89 years ago in Oregon County on a farm where he has spent his entire life.
On Nov. 28, 1892, Mr. Jolliff married Amanda Tatum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Tatum in Ozark county. To this marriage two daughters were born, Edith Mobley and Mable Bales. Mrs. Amanda Tatum Jolliff died in 1897.
On Dec. 28, 1899, Mr. Jolliff married Lillie Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doc Moore.
Surviving are his wife; six sons, Homer Jolliff of Peoria, Ill.; Cecil Jolliff of West Plains, Mo.; Leslie Jolliff of Detroit, Mich.; Nate Jolliff of Koshkonong, Mo.; Everett Jolliff of Peoria, Ill.; and Clifton Jolliff of Hamden, NY; three daughters, Edith Mobley of Koshkonong, Mo.; Mable Bales of Thomasville, Mo.; and Clara Mustion of Eureka, Calif.; and two half sisters, Nancy Miller of Thomasville, Mo.; and Tilda Willard of Alton, Mo. There are 43 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
One half brother precedes him in death.
Mr. Jolliff was a Baptist since early manhood with membership in the Jolliff Baptist Church in Oregon County.
He was for many years a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge and Modern Woodsman Lodge.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon in the Baptist Church at Rover with the Rev. Guy Flood of Thomasville and the Rev. Ben Meeks of Thayer officiating.
Burial will be in Jolliff Cemetery.
