Duaine Lee Sidlo was born January 23, 1933 to Bohumil and Elizabeth Strobl Sidlo at the family home north of the Amboy Mill in Webster County, Nebraska. Duaine was the youngest of seven children. His siblings included Rose Haller, Vencil, Emil, Albert, and Bohumil Sidlo Jr., and Mary Wittwer.

In 1934 the family moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska. Duaine attended school in Red Cloud graduating with the Class of 1952. After graduation Duaine served his country by joining the United States Army. He spent time overseas serving in Korea.

Duaine was married to Parthena Mae Ross on October 1, 1961 at the Inavale, Nebraska Methodist Church. One daughter, Robyn Leagh, was born to this union. Duaine and Parthena celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011.

Duaine was employed by the State of Nebraska Department of Roads for almost thirty-four years retiring in 1995. He served his community as a volunteer fireman beginning in 1972. Duaine was a member of the American Legion and participated in numerous Memorial Day programs and Legion events. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and “coffee” with the guys.

Faced with health issues, in 2013 Duaine took up residence at the Grand Island, Nebraska Veterans’ Home. He died at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island on February 9, 2015. Graveside service with burial of cremains was held March 20, 2015 at the Red Cloud Cemetery.

Duaine Sidlo was preceded in death by his parents, his six siblings and their spouses, and his parents-in-law Ora & Alwilda Ross. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Parthena; daughter Robyn (Dan) Shuda; granddaughters Eva (Wesley) Stingley, Cecilia Shuda, Heather (William) Howard, and Darla Shuda; grandson Duaine Shuda; eight great grandchildren; special nephew Larry Haller; special niece Barbara (John) Butcher; other relatives; and many friends.
