Franz (Frank) Ignatius Palivec was born Feb 12, 1902, in Drahlín, Austria-Hungary, now Czech Republic. On Mar 20, 1913, he departed Bremen, Germany for the USA on the ship Chemnitz, a part of the North German Lloyd Line. He travelled in 2nd Cabin accomodations. Frank arrived in Philadelphia with his parents and 7 siblings on April 4, 1913 at the age of 11.

Listed in 1920 Census, Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, OH, age 18, sewing machine clerk, with his father, John, age 49, foundry watchman, with his mother, Anna, 49, his brothers, Joseph, 16, department store stockboy, and sisters, Virginia, 11, Bertha, 9, and Mildred, 8. All immigrated 1913. Lived at 12906 Union Avenue. Also living there was his widowed sister, Toney (Antonie) Yaminik, 29 (27), and Toney's son Charley Hantl, 4, as well as another sister Anna Wajnarovsky, 23 (21), immigrated 1908, her husband Tom, 34, Polish, machinist, immigrated 1892, and their daughter Anna, 9 months.

Frank filed his initial papers for citizenship on Mar 30, 1925, at age 23, working as a finisher, and living at 12906 Union Ave, Cleveland, OH. Incorrectly lists his immigration date of 1912 and immigration ship as Barbarossa, instead of Chemnitz.
