Victor J. Ubert, 93, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on July 1, 2014. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 8, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 708 N. 4th Street, K,C., KS., with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the church. Inurnment will take place at 11:00 AM, July 17, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Vic was born May 27, 1916 in Catherine, KS. the seventh of twelve children, to Frank and Catherine (Schukman) Ubert. His early years were spent growing up and working on the family farm. It was in this environment, that the foundation of things he enjoyed throughout his life was laid. . . his Catholic religion, strong work ethic, and patriotism. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941, he served in Papua, New Guinea, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After World War II, he moved to the Kansas City area, where he met his future wife, Ann Sturlich. They were married on November 13, 1954 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where he remained a lifelong parishioner. After being employed for 27 years at Vess Cola Bottling Company which closed in 1974, he then went to work for the City of Kansas City, KS. doing maintenance work, retiring in 1981. Vic loved life and getting involved in activities. He and his good friend, Louise Grosko, attended many local functions together. The last seven years of his life were spent at Medical Lodge Post Acute Care Center, where he developed close friendships with the staff. Many of them came by to comfort him in his last days. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann in October 1993; parents; nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by a son, Richard, two granddaughters, Maureen and Hilary; brother, Wilfred and sister, Lillian Staab. Rest in peace, Dad!
