Mary Mackie was born at Markinch, Fifeshire (her birth went unrecorded) the daughter of Alexander and Ann (Mathewson) Mackie.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Miller formerly of this place but late of Harrison was held here Saturday P.M. She was past ninety years of age, she made her home with Mrs. Helen Jewett. She leaves 4 sons, John of Rockford, Alexander of this place, Roger of Wis., and Edward of Hunter, Ill. and five daughters, Mrs. Jewett of Harrison, Mrs. Harley of Rockton, Mrs. Robinson of Beloit, Mrs. Lloyd of Roscoe and Mrs. Reckhow of Rockford, besides several grand and great grand children and one sister. She early found the Savior precious, she was a member of this church [old north church], Rev. Jones and Baldwin conducted the service. Mrs. Pollack at the organ, singing by the quartet, Mrs. Zahm, Miss Pollack, Mr. Pollack and Mr. Powell. The casket was covered with flowers and the sheaf of ripened grain. Mr. J.E, Houston made a most appropriate reference to the funeral here and the one across the sea held at the same hour. The interment took place at the north cemetery.
