Last rites for Mrs. Charles Johnson, 71, lifetime resident of the Newfolden community, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. Loren Nielson officiating. Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday evening at the Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls. Interment was made in the Augustana Cemetery near Newfolden.
Mrs. Johnson (Thea Svendsen) was born May 25, 1893 in Newfolden Township where she received her education and grew to womanhood. In 1921 she was united in marriage to Charles Johnson at Warren. Shortly after their marriage, the couple farmed on the old homestead near Newfolden where they continued to make their home.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; one son, Wallace of Newfolden; two daughters, Mrs. Newell (Eloise) Smeby of Rochester and Mrs. Charles (Vivian) Dopplar of Minneapolis; four sisters, Mrs. Hans (Helga) Hanson of Newfolden, Mrs. Even (Emma) Hanson of Newfolden, Mrs. Agnes Setterholm of Minneapolis and Mrs. Marie Pilon of Newfolden; three brothers, Hans Svendsen, Norris Svendsen and Oscar Svendsen all of Newfolden; also several nieces and nephews.
