O. Svendsen Services Held Here Tuesday

Funeral services for Oscar Svendsen, 78, of rural Newfolden were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., at the Green Funeral chapel. Svendsen died Sunday at his home in New Folden township, Marshall county.

Rev. Berton Hushagen, pastor at Trinity Lutheran church, officiated at the services. Organist and soloist was Mrs. Violet Barr. Interment will be in the Folden cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vernon Olson, Stanley Holmaas, John Lokstad, Freeman Hiaasen, Marshall Myhrer, and Lester Olson.

Oscar Svendsen, a son of the late Brede and Nathalie Hanstad Svendsen, was born Feb. 23, 1904 in Newfolden. He attended school in the Newfolden area, grew to manhood there, and later farmed in that community.

He served in the armed forces for a short time during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to New Folden township where he continued farming. He never married.

He is survived by one brother, Norris Svendsen, Hallock; two sisters: Mrs. Agnes Setterholm and Mrs. Marie Pilon, both of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Thief River Falls Times, January 5, 1983
