AUGUST HAYES DEAD AT 85.

MORRICE -- August (Gus) Hayes 85, of Morrice died Tuesday evening in Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past three days. Funeral services are to be held at 1 pm Friday at Jennings-Lyons Chapel with the Rev. Richard Andrus officiating, burial is to be at Hillcreast Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hayes was born November 3, 1882, in Owosso, the son of Edward and Mary (Luft) Hayes. He worked for the Corunna Manufacturing Company, in Corunna and for D.M. Christian Company, a department store, in Owosso, in Merchant Delivery Service.

He was married September 18, 1907, to Maude Kline in Owosso. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last September. He moved to a farm north of Morrice in 1921 and in 1932 moved into Morrice. He was made Marshall of Morrice and walked the town and kept the peace.

Mr. Hayes was a farmer most of his life. His farm was located south of Owosso. At one time in his life he drove the Jewel Tea Wagon. Mr. Hayes was totally blind for several years before he died. He was known to be a fan of the Detroit Tigers and loved listening to baseball on the radio. He was a member of the Morrice United Methodist Church.

Survivors are; his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Brown of Morrice, and Mrs. Dorothy Headlee of Grand Rapids; four sons, Kenneth of Corunna, Paul of Tampa Florida, Harold of Romeo, and James of Shaftsburg; twenty-two grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; two brothers, John of Corunna, and Fred of Owosso, and two sisters, Mrs. Almina Haeger, and Mrs. Florence Olsen, both of Flint.
