Mary Ann was born to James Woods and Rebecca Paden in Paden City, Tyler Co. WV. This branch of the family changed the spelling of their name to Paden after Paden City was named for Rebecca's father Obediah Peden.

She married Thomas Peden on April 20, 1828 in Delaware Co. IN. Mary Ann and Thomas were 1st cousins once removed, her mother Rebecca was his first cousin.

Children born to this union were, Thomas, Lydia ann, Rebecca Ann, Jesse, Mary Ann, Hester (Hetty), Melissa Ann and James Peden.

Thomas and Mary Ann moved to Jay Co. IN onto their 800 acre farm, where they remained the rest of their lives.
