Mary Borup was born 23 January 1879 in Sterling, Polk County, Wisconsin, the fourth of 6 children born to John Alfred Borup (1850-1921) and Christina Matilda (Svensdatter) Borup (1849-1884). She was married to John Albert Swanson (1873-1916) in November 1898. They had seven daughters and one son. Mary was widowed when her youngest daughter Anna was but 6-weeks old in September 1916. Mary lived in Minneapolis the rest of her life. She died on 2 July 1959 in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 80 and was interred at Hillside Cemetery.
