Christina Matilda Svensdatter was born 10 April 1849 in Sweden. She was married to John Alfred Borup (1850-1921) on 31 May 1873 in Sweden. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1874, and lived in Sterling, Polk County, Wisconsin. They had six children, including their eldest son Carl John Victor Borup, who died as an infant during their sea voyage to the U.S. in April 1874. Matilda fell ill in 1884, and her husband hired a single-mother, Elin Randine Nilsen (1851-1917) to help with the housekeeping and caring for his ailing wife. She died on 6 September 1884 at home in Sterling, WI at the age of 35. John married Elin Nilsen on 19 May 1885, and they had 3 children together.
