William J. "Willie" Borup was born on 19 April 1875 in Sterling, Polk County, Wisconsin, the 2nd oldest son of John Alfred Borup (1850-1921) and Christine Mathilda (Svensdatter) Borup (1849-1884), who had just immigrated to the U.S. the year before. Willie was married to Gertrude Alice Sybrandt (1880-1939) on 19 December 1900 in Chisago County, MN. They later divorced. They had two daughters, Alice (1901-1958) and Lois (1904-1949). Willie worked in lumber and sawmills across Minnesota, and in Manitoba, Canada. He died in Nopeming Nursing Home in Duluth on 14 February 1961 at the age of 85, and was interred at Sunrise Memorial Park there.
