John Albert Swanson was born on 20 August 1873 in Valbo, Galveborg, Sweden, the son of Lars Fredrick Swanson [Svensson] (1850-1917) and Britta Katarina Walberg Swanson (1851-1904). He immigrated to the U.S. as a child in 1878. He was married to Mary Borup (1879-1959) on 19 November 1898 in Minneapolis, MN. They had seven daughters and one son. He was the caretaker foreman at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis. He died from pernicious anemia on 12 September 1916 in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 43, only 6-weeks after his youngest daughter Anna was born. He was interred at Hillside Cemetery.
