Melvin Lawrence Swanson was born 23 June 1910 in Minneapolis, MN, the sixth child and only son of John Albert Swanson (1873-1916) and Mary Borup Swanson (1879-1959). He was married to Vivian Louella Larson (1917-2008) on 12 October 1940 in Hennepin County, MN. They had three daughters: Barbara Joan Swanson Bateman (1942-), Rev. Carole Mae Swanson Lloyd (1944-2013), & Jane Laurel Swanson (1956-). Melvin was a purchasing agent for a machine company. He died on 7 November 1987 in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 77. He was interred at Sunset Memorial Park.
