Charles Hester Dodson passed away at 6:30 AM, on Friday, 07 August 1987, at Parkview Hospital in Wheeler, Wheeler County, Texas. He was 85.
Mr. Dodson was born on Monday, 02 June 1902, to Charles Robert Dodson and Wilhelmina "Willie" Smith Dodson in Parker County, Texas. He was the second of eleven children born to this union.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie Lee Pillars on Sunday, 07 December 1930, in Shamrock. Mrs. Dodson survives Charles. They were married 46 years. To their union was born a single daughter, Patricia Ann Dodson.
Mr. Dodson came to Wheeler County in 1917, where he lived for 68 years. He worked in the Wheeler County Tax Office for 27 years where he served as assistant Tax Assessor and Collector.
He was a member of the church of Christ and for a number of years sang with the Courthouse Quartet. Two years he taught music and sang for revivals in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He had farming interests in the Twitty Community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Patricia Ann Dodson Martin, sister Birdia Mae Dodson, brother George William Dodson, sister Pearly Bell Dodson, brother Roy Woodrow Dodson, and brother Jack D. Dodson.
Survivors include his wife of the home, 119 South Iowa, Shamrock, sister Naomi Dodson Switzer and husband Francis of Kermit, Winkler County, Texas, sister Ila Ruth Dodson Shlapack and husband Alex of Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, sister Myrtle Lee Dodson Baker and husband James of Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, brother Robert Lester Dodson and wife Nellie of Kilgore, Gregg County, Texas, brother Chancy Ray Dodson and wife Marjorie of Dallas, and two grandchildren: Kimberly and Stacy Martin and their parents, Terry and Wendy Martin of Iowa Park.
Funeral services for Charles Hester Dodson were conducted by minister Wayford Smith and Worley R. Ferguson, minister of the church of Christ in Forest City, Arkansas, Sunday, 09 August 1987, at the Shamrock church of Christ.
Jimmy Pillers, Charles Carver, both of Amarillo, Billy Clay of Shamrock, Charles Hall of Pampa, Leonard Powledge of Allison and Melvin Todd of Shamrock served as pallbearers.
Interment occurred at Shamrock Cemetery of Shamrock
