Mrs. Frederick, Pine Island, Dies

Mrs. Adah Margaret Frederick, 81, of Pine Island, died here Friday at Pine Haven Nursing Home, where she has been a patient for two years.

The former Adah Stark was born March 16, 1891 in Mantorville Township, Dodge County to Jacob and Sarah (Maxson) Stark. She graduated from Mantorville High School and went to Normal School to become a teacher.

She married Charles Frederick on November 18, 1918 in Dodge Center. He died December 20, 1956. Mrs. Frederick taught in rural Dodge County schools until she was married. After her marriage, she farmed with her husband on the same farm in rural Pine Island in Milton Township for 54 years. She was a member of the Ladies Guild at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne. She was famous for her Sunday dinners with various family members and for her flower and vegetable garden, always sharing her bounty with others when they came to visit.

She is survived by one son, Charles Junior of Pine Island; three grandchildren, Cathy Whitcomb, Donald Frederick and Nancy Frederick; two great-grandchildren, Jay and Jon Whitcomb; a brother, Lawrence D. Stark of Austin, and three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Belden of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Laura Bauer of Clarks Grove, Minn., and Mrs. J. E. (Bessie) Allen of Galesburg, Wisconsin. Two brothers, Grant and Haven, and three sisters, Fannie Maxson, Mabel Kautz and Hattie Andrist, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zwingli United Church of Christ with Rev. Gerald Green officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson in the spring. Pallbearers will be Colin Yennie, Paul Gaarder, Milo Schiesser, Clifford McGowan, Elmer Kuperschmied and Kenneth Alberts.
