Deceased Name: Helena "Lena" (Schuler) Brenon of Rome
Helena "Lena" (Schuler) Brenon, 80, of Betsy Ross Skilled Nursing Facility, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, in Betsy Ross after a brief illness. She was born January 17, 1924 in Rome, New York, the daughter of Leo and Nora Spellicy Schuler. Helena attended St. Aloysius Academy. She was employed by Jones Bus Lines, Rome Manufacturing Company, Rome Sporting Goods, Oneida County Hospital and Kanoff's Department Store for several years. Helena was an avid bowler and will be remembered as the pioneer of the double coupon era. She loved to shop and enjoyed sewing. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Zimmermann, Clinton, Kathleen and Joseph Gualtieri; and one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Marion Brenon, all of Rome; one sister, Theresa (Schuler) Marcisofsky, Rome; and one brother and sister-in-law, Winston (Winnie) and Nancy Schuler, Ocala, Florida; also surviving are her cherished grandchildren, Michael and Tammy Zimmermann, Joseph Jr. and Tammy Gualtieri, Patrick and Jodi Gualtieri, John and Irma Gualtieri, and Dennis J. and Johanna Brenon; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Brianna, Joseph III, Mark, Helena, Jeni, Alexia, Pasquale and Giovanni Gualtieri, Nicholas and Carli Brenon and Samantha, Amanda and Scotty Zimmermann. In addition she is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; including a favorite cousin, Betty (Smith) Buttenschon, with whom she made strawberry jam; a sister-in-law, Shirley Schuler; two brothers-in-law, Dick Baader, Ernest Gipson, Jr.; and her close friends, Linda Merchant, Louise Marturano and Carol Corbin, with whom she did a lot of traveling. She was predeceased by her siblings, Leo Schuler, Mary (Schuler) Whitmeyer Hammon Marcellus, Florence (Schuler) Baader, Donald Schuler, Lawrence Schuler, Connie (Schuler) Gipson; and her grandson, Richard S. Zimmermann. The family of Helena would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Betsy Ross for the wonderful care she received. Graveside services will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made in Helena's memory to a charity of ones choice.
