Fred H. Hoeppner, 82, of 403 Southmoor Road, died at 1:45 p.m. yesterday at the Fair-Moor Nursing Home, Elkhart, following a four-year illness.

He was born June 23, 1883 in Tracy, Indiana to Charles (Carl) and Dorothea (Meier) Hoeppner and had lived in Elkhart the last 18 months, going from there to LaPorte.

Mr. Hoeppner was a retired farmer and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church here. He was married October 18, 1906 in LaPorte to Mary Abberger, who died February 6, 1957.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Emmett Blankschein, and Mrs. Merlin Travis, both of LaPorte, one son, the Rev. Lawrence C. Hoeppner, Elkhart; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Miss Emma Hoeppner of Kingsford Heights. Five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. M. Reinke officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Otto E. Giese Funeral Home after 7 tonight and all day tomorrow. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
