Noble was born in 1830 in Ohio to Mary Crouch & Charles Bates. At about age 13 he traveled with his parents to Iowa in a wagon train. His mother and 2 youngest brothers died on the trip.
At age 21, Noble, a farmer, married Eliza Jane Brennin. She apparently died in connection with the birth of their first and only child, Lillian.
Later Noble married Rusina Fuller. Their children included Mary, Pheobe, Arlissno and Noble P.
