La Crosse -- Henry Leon Schafer, 68, died Dec. 5, 1984 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, after a short illness.

Born Jan. 22, 1916 in Rush County, he married Esther Herrman Nov. 15, 1938 at Liebenthal.

He was a farmer and had been a lifetime Rush County resident. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of La Crosse.

Survivors: wife, of the home; sons, Ronald, Minden, Neb., Donald, Topeka; daughters, Arlene Schyler, Diana Schaffer and Sandra Herrman, all of Hays, Deonata Logan, La Crosse; brothers, Pete Schaffer, La Crosse, Stephen Schaffer, 2700 North Washington; sisters Applonia Webber, Oakley, Rose Schuckman, La Crosse; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse. Holy day mass and burial at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, Father George Mueller. Burial at La Crosse Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 until 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
